This month, I’d like to recommend Peter Schneider’s ‘The Wall Jumper,’ a short novella which will be our Book Club choice for July 19th. Published in 1982, the story revolves around Berliners who move back and forth over the Wall at will, to illuminate the ineptitude the East German regime, or just to go to the cinema. Schneider, a West German author and speech writer for Chancellor Willy Brandt, makes an intriguing prediction that ‘the wall in our heads’ will take longer to be eliminated than the physical border. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the book!
